Washington Monument

The Washington Monument was built in honour of George Washington. The building was finished in 1884, and is about 170 metres high. It is possible to travel to the top of the monument, to get some fine views over Washington.

The Washington Monument can be seen from most parts of Washington

It's not as ornate as you might expect, though

You get some good views from the top - if you can get a ticket

As I said before, to my eyes, the monument seems a trifle bland

But you can't miss it - wherever you are in Washington!
